O rapper The Weeknd levou oito prêmios e Adele ganhou outros cinco, inclusive o de Artista do Ano e o de Melhor Álbum por "25".
A premiação se destacou pelos números musicais com Stevie Wonder e Madonna realizando um tributo a Prince, Britney Spears interpretando um medley com algumas de suas músicas mais famosas, e também apresentações de Kesha, Rihanna, Pink, Celine Dion, entre outras.
